United States Secretary of Defense James Mattis delivered a powerful remark to the hermit kingdom on Saturday: despite their ongoing tests and calls for war, they are no match for the American-South Korean alliance.
“Make no mistake, any attack on the United States or our allies will be defeated, and any use of nuclear weapons by the North will be met with a massive military response that is effective and overwhelming.”
Clearly Mattis has reached the end of his tolerance for Kim Jong-un’s constant disobedience towards international nuclear pacts. During the same announcement, South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-moo came forward to join Mattis, pointing out that the threat of a nuclear missile attack from North Korea is accelerating.
Furthermore, Reuters just reported that the CIA now says North Korea could be just months away from being able to harness their full nuclear capacities in order to strike America.
As the world stage heats up, Mattis now accuses the communist regime of illegal and unnecessary missile programs, and vows to defeat any attack with crushing force.
President Trump stands behind and supports Mattis’ hard stance on North Korea. President Trump has made this known publicly with tweets aimed at ousting Kim Jong-un’s parade of violence and disrespect.
Defense Secretary Mattis went further, stating that a world where North Korea has nuclear power isn’t acceptable.
“I cannot imagine a condition under which the United States would accept North Korea as a nuclear power.”
In August, President Trump said any more threats against the U.S. would be received with “fire and fury like the world has never seen.”
If President Trump intends to carry our his campaign promise of stopping North Korea from being able to threaten the U.S. with nukes, something will have to give soon—within the next coming months.
And as Kim Jong-un becomes more and more resilient against negotiations, the only alternative left seems to be U.S. military action aimed at neutralizing North Korea’s nuclear assets—of course anything like this would put not only South Korea and Japan at risk, but the United States as well.
Unfortunately, the previous administration did nothing to handle the situation. With 8 years to advance his program undisturbed, Kim seems determined to finish what he started.
“If it remains on its current path of ballistic missiles and atomic bombs, it will be counterproductive, in effect reducing its security,” Mattis said at the Seoul news conference, pointing out that they are going to lead to their own destruction.
Hopefully North Korea will realize this soon, before a massive shift in international relations becomes not only hopeful, but forcefully required—with the hand of military justice.
