A story that broke earlier this week in D.C.’s favorite gossip sheet, the Hill, has liberals scrambling to defend darling Hillary against new and shocking disclosures. While cheerfully assuring the progressive masses that her family charitable foundation “went above and beyond” to transparently identify their donors, she crossed her fingers behind her back and left out a few details. Details like non-cash contributions in sums that dwarfed the ones that actually were listed.
The world has known since 2015 that the Clinton Foundation has a history of taking donations from “countries with complicated diplomatic, military and financial relationships with the U.S. government, including Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman.” Foreign entities, mostly governments, make up “a third of those who have given the foundation more than $1 million over time.” China, South Korea, and Thailand are also on the list of heavy Clinton supporters.
What we just learned this week is that while the Clinton Foundation is pretty good about disclosing cash contributions, “pro-bono and in-kind contributions” have not been recorded. For instance, Foundation reports list $50,000 donated in cash by APCO Worldwide, a registered lobbying firm. What the reports don’t show is “hundreds of thousands of dollars the firm donated in pro-bono services.”
Then there is good old Uranium One. The story nobody wants to talk about. When “a family foundation linked to the mining company Uranium One, taken over in 2010 by Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy firm Rosatom,” contributed $2.35 million, nobody put it on the books. Then a reporter for the New York Times dug the donation out of Canadian tax records. Suddenly, they admitted it and said “oops.”
When Iran wanted to grease the skids with Hillary’s State Department to avoid inconveniently tightened sanctions, a Swedish firm Iran did a thriving business with, that would be threatened by the sanctions, forked over $26 million that State Department ethics officials never knew about, through the Swedish branch of the Clinton empire, William J. Clinton Foundation Insamlingsstiftelse.
Another Clinton tentacle, The Clinton Health Access Initiative, forgot to mention the donations they got from “Rwanda, Sweden, Papua New Guinea and Flanders.” Other countries, like China and Qatar, shoveled “millions of dollars in speaking fees” at Bill, Hillary, and their daughter, Chelsea.
For those that like to “follow the money,” a good stack to watch would be half a million cash that the Algerian government made in 2010 for “Haiti earthquake relief.” Violating the 2008 agreement Hillary signed with her bosses at the State Department, promising to behave and not take donations from countries she would have a conflict of interest with, she felt she could make an “exception.” After all, it was to help the poor Haitians, right?
First of all, the donation correlated in time with “a spike in the North African country’s lobbying visits to the State Department.” Algeria does not have the best human rights record and has been slapped often on the wrist politically. Hillary agreed to lighten up a little if they showed their commitment to human rights with a little donation to Clinton’s Haiti relief effort. That year records show they spent $422.097 on lobbying efforts to convince the State Department to see things their way and got nowhere. Paying the same amount straight to Hillary was sure to produce better results.
The Algerian connection came to light just as Clinton was warming New Hampshire up for last year’s election. When a reporter asked Joe Biden about the allegations he replied, he didn’t “know enough about it.” A spokesman for the RNC had to laugh, saying Biden had “now officially said more than candidate-in-hiding” Hillary Clinton.”
Haitian activist Dahoud Andre has a similar opinion. “The Clinton family, they are crooks, they are thieves, they are liars.” While Bill was “appointed co-chairman of the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission,” Clinton’s own records show “9% of the foreign aid cash went to the Haitian government and 0.6% to local organizations.” All the rest of 13 BILLION dollars “went to UN agencies, international aid groups, private contractors and donor countries’ own civilian and military agencies.”
The Pentagon made a bundle selling bottled water. The bill they dropped on the State Department was “hundreds of millions of dollars” for sending troops to hand the bottles out. They also charged for police services to “keep order on the streets of Haiti’s ravaged capital, Port-Au-Prince.”
The locals never saw much improvement since the disaster. “I didn’t get any of the money,” Inèse Luma complains. She lives with five of her relatives packed in a slapped together shelter of wood and plastic topped with a tarp. “I don’t think I’m ever going to have a permanent house.”
$13.5 billion was raised for relief efforts, enough to rebuild the whole island. Seven years later they have nothing to show for it except “The rubble is off the streets.”
